How to Replace Your Bathtub Drain

Eventually the drain in your bathtub is going to get old and worn and won't work as it should any longer. This is especially true of drains with built-in stoppers. As time passes you'll start noticing that it's getting harder to operate the stopper, water seems to seep from the tub when the stopper is closed, and it's hard to get the dirty water to drain from the tub when the stopper is open. At this point in time you'll need to buy replacement parts for your drain and then either hire someone to setup it or do the job yourself. It admittedly isn't as difficult a job as it may sound. All you'll need are channel locks, a Philips screwdriver, plumbers' putty, and some clean rags.

Begin the project by taking out the old drain plug mechanism. There is a cover plate on your tub which is attached with two screws. Take out the screws and take off the cover to present the inner workings of your drain. Reach in and pull this mechanism out straight through the hole in the tub.

If you're unable to take off all of the mechanism because pieces have broken off, you should check to see if you can passage the space behind the tub from a wall panel on the other side of the wall. If you find one, you can take off it and admittedly take out the broken pieces. However, if you don't have one available, you will need to bend a wire hanger or similar piece of wire into a hook shape so that you'll be able to fish them out straight through the small hole.

Now that you have the former pieces of the drain, you'll be able to replace any damaged ones with your replacement parts and reassemble the drain. You may find that you don't even need replacement parts. Sometimes all the mechanism needs is to be cleaned and to have the pieces put back together correctly again.

Examine the parts to find the ones that are damaged. Then check to see if the replacement parts you purchased are identical to the ones you're removing. If they don't happen to be the same, it's not a good idea to go ahead and use them. Using the wrong parts in your plumbing could cause leaks that will flood your house.

Once you've reassembled the drain mechanism, check all the parts to be sure they're working properly. Next test the stopper to see that it fits the drain pipe and plugs it the way it should. If all these tests work out, you'll be ready to reinstall the pieces of your drain. Don't effort to setup the stopper until everything is working correctly.

You can use plumbers' putty to seal the joints where the pipes and flanges attach to one another. The mechanism that you use to raise and lower the stopper must also be attached to the overflow plate. Don't seal the overflow plate down, though, without checking to make sure that the stopper is working correctly. Once you know that the tub will hold and drain water when you want it to, go ahead and seal down the plate.

Make sure you have abundance of putty on the overflow plate when you screw it down. Wipe off any excess that might squeeze out, and check to see that you haven't got anything obstructing the overflow vent. Once you've completed these steps, your drain should be as good as new and ready to work for you again.

My personal evaluation of the Orient Venus

It is a late model and beautiful ship. It has many very desirable attributes for a residential ship. It is a high end luxury cruise ship with an extraordinarily high tonnage to passenger ratio. This is very foremost for a residential ship. More living room and more space per passenger is far more vital for a residential ship than for a conventional cruise ship. When passengers are only on a ship for a short time, they can tolerate cramped living quarters, but when they live year-round on a ship, the extra space is quite valuable. The owners have been trying to sell this ship for ,000,000. That may seem like a high price, but when you divide it by the whole of cabins (195) the asking price per cabin is 2,564. This price is in line with what you would expect to pay for a condominium. The last word I got from the owners is that they will sell the ship for ,000,000 now (,307 per cabin). The cabins are all "outside" cabins and are large. The ship can adapt 606 passengers and a crew of 120, for a total of 726 people.

Several ship brokers have this ship listed. I usually do not talk to ship brokers. I prefer to talk directly with the ship owners. I am in experience with the owners of the Orient Venus. I could probably get this stunningly beautiful ship for less than ,000,000 today, and get some concessions and extras thrown in to boot.

Another example of a high end ship that would make do well as a industrial cruise ship, plus adapt a hundred or so full-time live aboard co-owners is the Dream Princess, originally named Song of Norway.

The asking price on this ship is million Usd. Divide the asking price by the whole of cabins and the mean cost per cabin would be ,620. Of procedure some cabins are good than others so co-owners would have to agree of the shared usage before according to the purchase.

I have some bad news for the ship owners and some good news for you. This ship will not sell for the asking price.

Fuel

Ship fuel is cheaper than automobile fuel for a few reasons. There are no road taxes on ship fuel of procedure and also it is separate fuel. Ships main engines usually run on Ifo180 or Ifo380. There is a enterprise called Kiteship that has developed and produces kites for racing sailboats. These pilotage kites do not need a mast. The kites fly high above the vessel, attached by cable and controlled from the vessel. Dave Culp of Kiteship has done a technical feasibility study on fitting a very large kite onto a conventional cruise ship. This would dramatically reduce fuel consumption. It would turn a fuel guzzler to a "green machine." This is tantamount to converting a powerboat into a sail boat. The fabricate of a cruise ship limits the whole of sail that a conventional ship can safely accommodate. A cruise ship lacks the ballast of a sail boat. If used in increasing to the main engine(s) the kite will increase fuel efficiency. If the kite is used to pull the ship with the main engines shut down the ship's speed will be reduced substantially. However, in this case, not only would the ship save Ifo (main engine fuel) but also save Mdo (generator engine fuel). Even if the ship were traveling very moderately in the water, the propellers would turn in reverse if freed from the main engines. This is a very straightforward and easy task for the ship's engineer to accomplish. In other words, the ship can be pulled by the kite, and that petition will push the ship's propellers providing power to produce electricity and power the air-conditioning without using any fuel. The trade-off is a loss of speed and also some tacking is required, further reducing actual speed. What's the rush? Why not go for maximum fuel savings? The salient point is that a high flying large kite can pull a cruise ship. If I were a co-owner of a cruise ship I would hope to find like minded co-owners who would be receptive to using such state-of-the-art technologies to save fuel.

That converts to a lot of co-owner toys such as motorhomes, tour trailers, campers, cabin cruisers, ski boats, jet skis, sailboats, houseboats, bass boats, motorcycles, Atvs, cars, and trucks.
